To Reading and Beyond!

Hi all!

Recently, I started a new job for an educational organization called Reading and Beyond! (Did you catch my title reference to Toy Story?!)

I am a Literacy Instructor for an after-school program at one of their sites in Fresno Unified. The program has about 200 students total, but I work with one group specifically for homeowkr help and reading and writing enrichment. I have about 20 3rd graders and I absolutely. love. it! Previously, my experience has only every been with the little guys in preschool and kindergarten, so when they said I would be working with 3rd graders, I wasn't sure what to expect. But I love it! I must say, I am pretty lucky because I have a really wonderful group of kids. They are all so respectful and have made me feel so welcomed and loved. Is there anything better than hearing kids yell excitedly "Miss Emily!" when they see you? Well, your name of course, but you know what I mean. It just makes your heart smile.

Anyway, I have been here for about 2 weeks or so now and am really loving it. Not only does the schedule work perfectly with school, but I also feel like I am gaining great experience for when I have my own classroom!

Were you ever hesitant about working with a certain grade? Did you change your mind?
